AbstractThe building energy demand simulation tools consist the compass of the roadmap towards the energyefficient building. Apart from the software itself, the result of the simulation strongly depends on thedegree the data used represent the actual situation, among which the climate data of the area are a keyfactor. In this work, the energy demand of a large building complex is estimated, using the widelyaccepted EnergyPlus building simulation software in combination with two, also widely accepted,weather files. The simulation results for heating are compared with the actual fuel consumption of athree-year operation period. The comparison reveals that the weather file and the size of the simulationdomain significantly affect the simulation representativeness. . Evaluation of heat pumps usage and energy savings in residential buildings
AbstractThe residential housing sector is a major consumer of energy in most countries around the world. In theUnited States the residential sector consumes about 21 % of the energy and about 35% of the electricityproduction. Of the total energy consumption per house hold about 33% is consumed for space heating.This study evaluates the energy consumption in residential houses during the heating season. The mainobjective of the study is to test the effectiveness of using heat pumps for space heating in eastern NorthCarolina. Data for the current study were collected from four cities in eastern North Carolina. Thecollected data which includes surveys and actual energy consumption (gas and electrical) were analyzedusing statistical methods. Results show that houses with heat pumps as the main source of heating havethe lowest energy consumption and the lowest energy intensity (energy per unit area of the house).Houses with electrical furnaces have the highest energy consumption and the highest energy intensityratios. . The experiment aim to evaluate the packaging material for extending the shelf life of pomegranate with retaining better fruit quality attributes. Freshly harvested pomegranate fruits packed in low density polyethylene (LDPE) (25 micron), polypropylene (PP) (25 micron), cling film and cellophane paper film. Among all these packaging materials, the pomegranate fruits packed in LDPE 25 micron film had the least reduction in physiological loss in weight, minimal decay loss and highest ascorbic acid content. The different packaging material had no significant effect on total soluble solids, titratable acidity, pH and anthocyanin contents. However, storage duration had significant influence on these quality attributes and the significantly maximum total soluble solids, anthocyanin content and highest pH was observed on 12th day of storage. The ascorbic acid and titratable acidity were found maximum on the 0th day of storage and subsequently decreased with the prolongation of storage period. ... Malwa Plateau is nontraditional area of grapes and the investigations was conducted at experimental field of AICRP on Fruits (Grapes), College of Horticulture, Mandsaur from year 2014-15 to 2017-18 for popularizing the grapes cultivating area and exploring the climatic condition of the region for coloured table grapes cultivation (hot day and cold night up to March - April with low humidity). There were ten grapes varieties under the evaluation study, i.e. Sharad Seedless, Krishna Seedless, Flame Seedless, A-18/3, Fantasy Seedless, Kishmish Moldowsky, Black Seedless, Kishmish Rozavis Red, Crimson Seedless and Ruby Seedless. Fruit skin colour was observed red in Krishna Seedless, Flame Seedless, Kishmish Moldowsky, Kishmish Rozavis Red, Crimson Seedless and Ruby Seedless. The Sharad Seedless, Fantasy Seedless, A-18/3 and Black Seedless observed black fruit skin colour. The shape of Flame Seedless, Kishmish Moldowsky, Ruby Seedless and Black Seedless varieties observed round and six varieties i.e. Kishmish Rozavis Red, Crimson Seedless, A-18/3, Krishna Seedless, Sharad Seedless and Fantasy Seedless fund oval in shape. The early maturity was observed in Flame Seedless (134 days after fruit pruning). Maximum yield (6.23 kg) was recorded in A-18/3 with small bunch size i.e. 99.27 g and maximum number of bunch i.e. 61.13 bunches per vine, similarly the Kishmish Moldowsky recorded maximum bunch weight 211.81 g with maximum beery weight (283.69 gm/100 berries). Development and evaluation of different rotary slit cutters under controlled condition
Zero-Till-Slit tillage and seeding machine was designed and developed for fulfilling the requirements of conservation agriculture. The rotary zero-till-slit tillage and seeding machine were developed for zero-till seeding in straw fields after grain combine harvester''s operation. The combined tillage and seeding machine were equipped with seven units of rotary slit cutters as a key component. In the present study, four different shapes of rotary slit cutters were evaluated in the soil-bin laboratory for different forces acting on the rotary slit cutter blade. The four blade shapes were trapezoidal, triangular, knife section with full-length sharp edge and knife section with a pointed tip and tapered sharp edge. The performance evaluation of four rotary blade shapes of slit cutters was carried out in soil-bin at ICAR - C.I.A.E., Bhopal under controlled soil conditions. Lower values of horizontal force (N), vertical force (N), and torque exerted (N-m) were found in the trapezoidal shape of slit cutter compared to triangular, knife section with full-length sharp edge and knife section with a pointed tip and tapered sharp edge. A horizontal force (N), vertical force (N), torque exerted (N-m) were found increased as forwarding speed (S), rotational speed (RS), and depth of cut of rotary slit cutter blade increases in the four shapes of rotary blade of slit cutters. Alternaria leaf blight of sunflower caused by Alternaria helianthi is an important disease of sunflower. The study conducted on in vitro evaluation of new molecules of fungicides and plant extracts against Alternaria helianthi, causal agent of Alternaria blight of sunflower. In vitro evaluation of fungicides revealed that, among four systemic fungicides hexaconazole and propiconazole were highly effective in inhibiting the mycelial growth with 100% inhibition among non systemic fungicides the maximum inhibition of mycelial growth was found in captan (86.30%) at 600 ppm concentration followed by copper oxy chloride (84.07%) whereas, among the botanicals neem seed kernel extracts at 10 per cent(43.74%) showed positive effect on inhibition of pathogen mycelium growth followed by neem leaf extracts(25.26%). Evaluation of different soil amendments and germplasm / varieties against tomato bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum
Bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchi is one of the most destructive diseases of tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum), causing accountable losses of about 10-90 per cent. Present investigations on the disease (R. solanacearum) were carried out during 2014-15 to fulfill the objectives defined, at the Department of Plant Pathology, College of Agriculture, VNMKV, Parbhani. A total of 10 organic amendments evaluated (pot culture) as pre- sowing soil applications were found effective against R. solanacearum. However, significantly highest seed germination was recorded with vermicompost (76.50 %), followed by karanj cake (71.74 %), neem seed cake (66.75 %) and compost (61.67%); whereas, significantly highest reduction in average incidence (PEM and wilt ) was recorded with vermicompost (60.66%), followed by karanj cake (53.74%), neem seed cake (46.70 %) and compost (41.33%). Under artificial epiphytotic conditions (root zone drenching method), all the 14 tomato entries evaluated exhibited different reactions against R. solanacearum. However, six entries (Tom-21, Tom-4, Tom17, Tom-13, S-22 and PKM-1) were moderately resistant with average wilt incidence in the range of 25.28 to 33.25 per cent; four entries (Tom-15, Tom-11, Tom-27 and Tom-7) were moderately susceptible with average wilt incidence in the range of 47.81 to 52.46 per cent and four entries (Tom-8, Tom-18, Tom-2 and Pusa Ruby) were susceptible with average wilt incidence in the range of 61.13–78.50 per cent. ...
